Terry Courtney, PI is the firm’s owner and lead investigator. She is licensed as a private investigator in Oregon and California. Prior investigation experience includes working for Special Circumstances, a private investigation firm based in Oakland, CA. While on staff with Special Circumstances, Terry worked as an outside investigator for the Contra Costa County, CA offices of the Public Defender and Alternate Defender in the East Bay, California.
Terry is a certified criminal defense investigator. She completed her national board certification training with the Criminal Defense Investigation Training Council (CDITC) of Stuart, FL. She also completed the California Defense Investigator Association’s criminal defense certification program.
Prior to becoming a private investigator, Terry worked in health care, drug treatment-related mental health and social services, and higher education. She has a 20-year experience as an Independent Medical Examiner (IME) as she is a licensed acupuncturist in Washington State. This background provides the skills needed to conduct initial file reviews of medical and mental health records in order to determine potential next steps with an investigation. Terry’s prior work in higher education provides her with an understanding of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), 504 designations, and their application to mitigation strategies. Terry’s unique background provides her with the ability to engage with a broad variety of people, including those who are usually reticent to talk.
